Participant Spotlight – Casey Flores
Meet Casey!
Casey has been a part of First Tee Contra Costa since he was 5 years old. Now 16, he’s a multi-sport athlete, playing football, swimming, basketball and of course, golf! Casey is also our very first intern at First Tee – Contra Costa, where he assists staff with multiple duties, and helps coach when the need arises. We’re very happy to feature Casey, especially because at the time of this publication (September 13, 2024) he’s celebrating his 16th birthday!
When did you start with First Tee?
I started when I was 5 years old. I was in the target class.
In your bag, what is your favorite club? Your least favorite club? Why?
Favorite club: 6 iron. Least favorite club: putter. I like my 6 iron because I feel comfortable hitting it and I feel I can get it a good distance with a nice ball flight. I don’t like my putter because I find it hard to get a nice putt and I am very inconsistent with it.
Who would be your dream foursome (what 4 people would you like to play golf with?)
Stephen Curry, Tom Brady, Coach Lucio, and me.
What is the best/favorite thing your coach has taught you?
Overlapping thumb grip. It has helped me hit the ball better.
What would you tell a friend who is interested in First Tee or golf in general?
Practice on the range first so that you can make sure your shot is decent enough to keep pace of play.
What is your favorite game to play during classes at First Tee?
Among Us.
Editor’s Note: Among us is a putting game based on the video game of the same name. In this game, players putt towards an intended target, while at the same time trying to identify the person who has been selected as an impostor, whose task is to eliminate other players in the game without being found.
Do you play other sports? If so, what do you play?
Flag and tackle football, golf, swim team, basketball.
Do you take part in any extracurricular activities?
Not at this time.
What is your most memorable experience on the golf course?
When I chipped it in at lake Chabot on hole 13 for a risky par.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
American football is the best sport and keep grinding 💯
