For the month of October we are featuring our participant John Scott Senz! John Scott has been a part of The First Tee of Contra Costa since 2010, and is currently in the Ace level. In addition to being a participant of The First Tee, John Scott also joins classes as an Assistant Coach, sharing his knowledge and experiences with other juniors from our chapter. He won the 18-hole Individual Special Olympics of Northern California Regional Golf Tournament, held at the Empire Ranch Golf Course in Folsom on September 17th. 2017. Read more about John Scott below!

1. When did you start with The First Tee?

I joined The First Tee back in 2010.

2. What is your favorite club in your bag? Your least favorite club?

My favorite club in my bag is my 5-iron because I am able to hit the club very accurately. I would say my least favorite club is my putter.

3. Who would be your dream foursome (what 4 people would you like to play golf with?)

My dream foursome would be Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas and myself.

4. What is the best/favorite thing your coach has taught you?

One of my favorite things taught by Coach Craig Kilcoyne is to visualize hitting the club by making a motion like a merry-go-round, instead of a Ferris Wheel.

5. What would you tell a friend who is interested in The First Tee or golf in general?

I would tell them that golf can be a great way to meet people and make new friends

6. What is your favorite game to play during classes at The First Tee?

SNAG games are definitely my favorite.

Note: SNAG is a type of golf equipment used to introduce juniors to the game of golf. It uses oversized clubs and balls, increasing the opportunities for success by juniors. In addition to the modified golf clubs, SNAG also uses colorful Velcro targets that help juniors identify what their objectives are. While the equipment is aimed at new golfers, some classes in The First Tee include them from time to time, as they provide additional feedback to junior golfers, not to mention that playing with SNAG equipment is a lot of fun!

7. What other sports (if any) do you like to play?

Besides golf, I also play basketball. I like to play shooting guard; however, I have started focusing more on my golf game.

8. Is there anything else you would like to share?

I am thankful to The First Tee of Contra Costa for all the help that I have received and for all of the playing opportunities they have provided me. I want to give back to the program and really enjoy volunteering as a First Tee Coach.

Excellent answers John Scott! Congratulations!
